Raquel opened Kanuka Yoga Space to create a community yoga space for all types of bodies and selected an amazing group of teachers to help cultivate inner-awareness for a wide range of personalities.

Raquel has been practicing yoga for a decade. She recognises her consistent yoga practice as a tool to stay centered and balanced internally, as well as finding more balance in external relationships (professional and personal). Her movement training also includes a background in figure skating, gymnastics, elite-level cheerleading and acro - she loves flying and has leaned into yoga as a more gentle way to feel this free flow.

She typically teaches Slow Flow, Yogalates and Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Trauma-Informed Facilitator

Her teaching style provides a space for students to explore their own inner landscapes alongside the physical ground and space around. She utilises a trauma-informed approach and invitational language so students can tap into their own wisdom. She has over 1,000+ hours of facilitating and has been teaching for 5 years.

In The Workplace

Raquel graduated with a degree in Psychology from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2009. She then moved to the other side of the world to work with The Japan Times (taking her to Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and Australia). Her corporate experience is primarily in sales and technology within the employee experience space. Her recent role was with Groov - providing technology-based workplace wellbeing solutions for businesses in Australia and New Zealand.

She understands organisations’ needs to realise the full potential of their employees and is an advocate to bring yoga and mindfulness practices into the workplace, as a tool to stay balanced in a fast-paced and competitive corporate environment.

As a self-described global tumbleweed, she understands the importance of creating spaces that promote cultural diversity and inclusivity - especially within workplaces.
